New Indiana Building Code

The Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission has approved four new codes that were signed by Governor Pence on August 4, 2014.  The new codes take effect for all Class 1 projects filed with state plan review on or after December 1, 2014.

The new Building Code, Fire Code, Mechanical Code and Fuel Gas Code are based on the 2012 International Model Codes with amendments.  Approved Indiana amendments are on the Commission's website.  Kovert Hawkins Architects is already well prepared for the new codes.  John Hawkins was the secretary for the building code committee and authored the fiscal impact study.  He also authored a number of the Indiana amendments.
